Custom Wedding Outfit: 5 Things to know
Wedding bells are not so far off in the distant future! Time to start thinking about your wedding outfit. There are things to consider: the color, the garment, the fit, etc. But there are also questions to ask your clothier, and yourself: what fabric, what shirt, what will the wedding party wear, etc. Lets dive in and see if we can’t help prepare you a bit more.
In my almost two decades in the clothing industry I’ve helped over 300 people find their perfect outfit. Some questions always come up and many topics I bring up, have not been thought of. If you're interested in talking about your wedding click below!
Time
When commissioning a custom garment for your wedding you want to be sure to schedule enough time for the fittings. Our garments take anywhere between 6-8 weeks, or if you need a Muslin fitting, 8-12 weeks. All in all it is best to schedule your first appointment 3 months in advance.
Questions to ask: what will the wedding party wear? Do you want to match or compliment? What will you do about neckwear? What shoes will you wear?
Garment Selection
It is important to know WHAT you want, do you want a suit, a tuxedo, maybe pants and suspenders. This will inform the fabric selection and the process. But if you don’t know, then have the vibe laid out.
Questions to ask: Is this an Elegant affair? What do you want your guests in? Is this rustic? Do you run warm? What could you see yourself in for years to come?
Fabric
Sure, color is important but what type of fabric do you need? I’m not going to offer a super 160’s silk blend wool for a rustic wedding. Nor will I recommend a 13oz english wool to a coastal lighthouse wedding. If none of this makes sense, I’ll explain it at our appointment.
Questions to ask: How will fabric adjust the price? What can we do to incorporate the wedding colors? How can we make this timeless?
Your Story
How do we make this garment more than just a garment? A custom piece is a one of a kind creation, and now we can transform it into a one of a kind way to tell your love story.
Can we incorporate your wedding date? Maybe pictures of you as a couple in the lining?
Money
And we come to the big topic. Yes, commissioning a garment comes with a hefty price tag. I’ve even had some people spend more on their suit than the wedding dress. But I ask you, when the wedding is said and done, the flowers are gone, the cake is eaten, the music has stopped, the dress is preserved. What is the only item you will be able to use again?
Your wedding garment will last you another 20+ years, its worth the investment.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
