Home Branford, CT
When I wrote my original business plan in 2018/2019 It was for a showroom of the future. Smart mirrors, music, bar, a fully hybrid store. People would want to come and hang out. Well I pitched it and everyone said no.
So I launched Bards the old fashioned way, traveling directly to my clients. My first sale was a disaster, the client stuck me with the bill and about 15 garments. I’ve been digging my way out and lugging them around for 3 years.
People have always asked when I’m going to open a store. I said it was my 5 year plan. Arnold Schwazaneger has these few rules he’s lived by and his #1 rule is Have a Vision. I started this company with that vision of a store, with people coming and hanging out, with Americana decor, with meaning and purpose in every corner. I wanted it to feel like home. Having this vision has kept me making the decisions that lead toward the goal.
I agreed to style a photoshoot 6 weeks ago, while I was there, Andria Bird of Lovebird in Mystic, a bridal gown designer, was discussing their Branford location and how they wanted to rent the second floor. Decisions were made and we went for it!
Bards has a new home, physical roots, a place for people to come and hang out. My biggest concern with a store was my lack of inventory, but guess what, that first disaster order is now one of the most crucial gifts.

This newsletter was probably more transparent than most business owners would bear, but I love using my life as an example of the highs and lows. Much like your personal story, there are moments of triumph and defeat, the scars remind you of the past but make you you. Your lifes story has informed your personal style. And now Bards physical representation to the world is a fully formed story, evolved until this point, and ready to grow more when you visit.
