In 1863, Jacob Johnson, an immigrant from Bavaria, founded J. Johnson & Sons, Inc., in Waterbury, Connecticut. In 1908, Jacobi Press, a Latvian immigrant, established J. Press in New Haven. Strouse, Adler Company Corset Factory

Founded in 1861 as J.H. Smith and Company, the Strouse, Adler Company became the nation's first manufacturer of corsets. By 1876, it had established a significant factory complex in New Haven, contributing to the city's reputation as a center for garment manufacturing. The company remained operational until 1998, highlighting its long-standing impact on the local economy.

In 1963, Vincent P. Ferrucci opened his custom tailoring business in New Haven, which evolved into Ferrucci Fine Men's Clothiers. The establishment has been recognized multiple times by The Custom Tailors and Designers of America, reflecting its commitment to quality and tradition.
